Having a generic domain name isn’t the sure path to securing the matching trademark that includes the TLD.
Luxury property rentals provider, Wander.com, filed a trademark registration application for WANDER.COM last year, with an “intend to use” clause.
The application reached the final stage at the USPTO, inviting those with a legitimate reason to oppose it.
Someone did: Virtuoso Ltd., registrants of the mark WANDERLIST and operators of the Virtuoso Wanderlist.
The opposition to the registration of the mark WANDER.COM is pending at the USPTO and it comes to show how a generic domain name and .com even cannot be a safe path to registering the matching trademark.
Fun fact: Virtuoso Ltd. does not own the domain Wanderlist.com, and its owner won a UDRP filed by Virtuoso last year.
