Web3 Domains, operators of a news publication about so-called web3 domains, have filed for the registration of the matching mark with the USPTO.
The application involves the mark WEB3 DOMAINS, filed for a large number of items, a small part of which is below:

The application cites June 6, 2022 as the date of first use of the mark WEB3 DOMAINS in interstate commerce.
Registered in June 2021, the domain Web3Domains.com appears to have been parked with PPC ads until June 2022, before going live with content, matching the date in the mark’s application. It’s quite possible that the current registrant acquired the domain at the time. Oddly, the domain name existed as far back as in 2010 before dropping.
Time will tell if the mark will be approved for registration, or declined based on the possible generic use of the term “web3 domains”—an example from Cointelegraph from April 2022 demonstrates such use of the term.
