For the second month in a row, Sedo, an advertising partner of Google, has issued earning adjustments.
The underlying cause: Google ad clients are “in default” which means that they aren’t paying for services rendered. Also, there is potential fraud involved, which Google refers to as “invalid clicks.”
In turn, Google goes back to its downstream ad partners, such as Sedo, informing them that they are to receive less money for ad conversions.
Sedo is not the only platform in the domain industry that provides PPC revenue opportunities; they have communicated the issue last month and here is today’s update for September’s earnings:
We hope this message finds you well. We would like to update you on an earnings adjustment for September, arising from defaulted advertiser payments at our primary upstream advertising partner.
Regrettably, the issue of defaulted advertiser payments continues to influence the payouts for this month. We anticipate that the deduction for September will be less substantial compared to last month. However, the final amount will be determined once we receive the conclusive revenue data from our upstream advertising partner.
The underlying cause for the deductions is consistent with what we reported last month. Our primary upstream advertising partner has experienced defaults on advertiser payments, which in turn affects our ability to distribute expected revenues. These defaults may be attributed to multiple factors, including payment method issues. It’s important to recognize that these challenges have a wider impact, affecting not just Sedo, but also our publishers, our feed provider, and our competitors.
