Domain thieves have more options now to sell their stolen domains on numerous marketplaces.
It’s unfortunate when it happens: a buyer, eager to get hold of a domain priced considerably below value was scammed late last night.
The domain name Murder.net was offered for sale on DNForum by a seller whose English was of questionable quality. It definitely did not match that of previous posts by the same user.
More so, the WHOIS information of the domain Murder.net and that of another domain on offer by the same account from several weeks prior did not match.
After doing some research, it turned out that using a compromised forum account, the seller offered Murder.net and Invest.us on DigitalPoint, NamePros and even on Flippa.
After some preliminary research by the DNForum moderators the thief’s IP places him in the Czech Republic – all while the WHOIS showed the owner to be in California.
Moral of the story: if the deal is too good to be true, it probably is. Never jump the gun with posting “sold” or you might end up getting “murdered”.
