The Messenger, a digital news startup that began in May 2023, is closing down due to financial challenges.
Led by Jimmy Finkelstein, former owner of The Hollywood Reporter and The Hill, The Messenger aimed to offer comprehensive, unbiased, non-partisan, and timely news coverage in response to the prevailing issues of bias and misinformation.
Despite its promising start last May, financial difficulties have led to the decision to shut down the platform.
The Messenger operated from the domain name TheMessenger.com which was part of the NameFind portfolio of domains.
The domain was most likely sold a year ago, as WHOIS data from January 13, 2023 shows. There is no recorded information about the amount that TheMessenger.com might have sold for.
Registered in 2000, the domain TheMessenger.com was part of the Marchex portfolio that GoDaddy acquired a few years ago.
Currently, TheMessenger.com displays a lander with the domain and an email. It might be available to acquire, just in case someone is interested in the traffic and backlinks that no longer resolve to news articles.
Its Twitter account is still sharing fresh tweets that were most likely scheduled before the company shut down.
