A massive new data leak was announced today, involving personal data from 1.2 billion accounts.
The result of an obvious hack consists of 4 Tb of personal information, containing profiles of hundreds of millions of people.
Such data includes: home and cell phone numbers, associated social media profiles like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Github, work histories extracted from LinkedIn. It contains almost 50 million unique phone numbers, and 622 million emails.
Are domain investors affected by this newly reported, massive data leak?
If you’re an active user of various social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others, you are most likely affected.
While there is no indication that the data set contained financial information such as credit card numbers, or sensitive information such as passwords and SSN numbers, it’s time to once again change your social media account passwords.
Most importantly, do not share the same password across all platforms, and ensure you utilize two factor authentication on your domain registrar account. This way, you safeguard unauthorized domain transfers from your domain portfolio.
