: Cannabis #domain owner applies for trademark at the USPTO

Doob is a slang term for a cannabis cigarette, apparently, and the owner of the matching .com domain is aiming high.

A new trademark application at the USPTO for DOOB.COM involves the following products and services:

Providing news and information in the field of cannabis

Retail store services featuring a wide variety of consumer goods of others; retail store services featuring medicinal herbs and herbs for medical purposes, clothing and apparel; on-line retail store services featuring a wide variety of consumer goods of others; all the foregoing goods containing CBD solely derived from cannabis with a delta-9 THC concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis

The applicant is a Virginia corporation, but as the WHOIS hasn’t changed in decades, we can safely assume the current owner simply formed a corporation with regards to the trademark application.

The law firm handling this application on their behalf is the very capable Saper Law of Illinois. Not surprisingly, the domain is also in a brokerage agreement with Prime Loyalty.

Why was DOOB.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?

It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the trademark application.

Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.

As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
