The ultra-premium domain name Fame.com was registered in 1992, at a time when domain registrations were both free and limited.
Fame.com was among the first 1,000 .com domain names to be registered and it still retains its registration date of January 8, 1992. At the time, domains were registered via paper application forms and were approved by a single person and their secretary.
Fast forward 30 years later, at a time when the internet has lost its capitalization, the operators of Fame.com have applied for the registration of the matching mark, FAME.COM, at the USPTO.
The mark application provides a stylized form of “FAME.COM” as a sample, although it’s applied for as plain text mark for the following services:
Internet-based dating, social introduction and social networking services
The domain name Fame.com does not resolve, currently, and there is no indication it has changed hands in recent days. The applicant, Seth Raid, uses “dexy Fame” as part of his LinkedIn page with no further references to a Fame project or Fame.com.
The Fame.com trademark registration application cites June 5, 2022 as the date of first use of the mark in interstate commerce. The following description explains the scope of Fame.com:
Fame.com stands for our unique Fame community in our dating, social networking, and social introduction services online.
Applying for the registration of matching marks is an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD.
As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
