Furniture.com America LLC, operators of Furniture.com, a premium domain name registered in 1999, have applied for the registration of the stylized mark, FURNITURE.COM.
According to the application, the mark consists of the stylized verbiage furniture.com as seen below:
The image is yet to be used on the web site Furniture.com, indicating that this trademark application is part of an image rebrand that includes a new logo:
The USPTO application was filed with an “intent to use” clause, for online retail furniture store services. There is no indication that the domain name has been sold.
The same applicant has filed a second application for F FURNITURE.COM that incorporates a logomark:
The mark consists of a circle containing a stylization of the letter “f” followed by a dot. The circle is followed by the styzled verbiage “furniture.com”.
Applying for the registration of matching marks is an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD.
As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
