We’re at the very end of 2015, a year with numerous frivolous UDRP cases brought against domain owners.
Good guys win in the end, and we’re hereby presenting you the stinkiest domain UDRP of the year.
A hockey club from Massachusetts that calls itself “Stinky Socks Hockey“, attempted to wrestle away the domain StinkySocks.com from its owner.
Apparently, they believed the UDRP process would be a quick strike of the stick on the puck, but the owner of this generic domain fought back.
Despite the lack of a formal response by the StinkySocks.com owner, they did provide proof of ownership since 2000, while the Complainant’s .net exists since 2006.
On top of that, the newly registered mark STINKY SOCKS HOCKEY arrived 15 years too late, as it was registered in September 2015.
The owner of StinkySocks.com is seeking $6,500 for the domain, by all means not a frivolous amount for a “stinky” yet generic domain name.
Ho Hyun Nahm, sole panelist, caught the foul on time and whistled that the StinkySocks.com domain should remain with the Respondent.
Final score: Domain investors 1 – Overreaching companies 0.
