So you bought your TRAFFIC ticket for Las Vegas, hopefully as an ‘early bird.’
Your hotel room is booked, and your flight ticket is neatly tucked inside your passport or other form of id.
Domain conferences, such as TRAFFIC, offer the opportunity to many newcomers and veterans alike, to intermix, exchange ideas and engage in domain business.
It’s not like you can meet Frank Schilling at your local deli on a Friday afternoon, but you can share the same dinner table with the ever-busy domain entrepreneur at TRAFFIC.
That being said, here are eight things that you should avoid doing, while in Las Vegas and TRAFFIC!
- Avoid the cocktail shrimp at various buffets. If you are prone to getting ‘the runs’ from food that hasn’t been scorched to high temperatures, this is the fastest way to using up a roll of toilet paper.
- Drink socially, but don’t mix your drinks. We know, what happens in Vegas, supposedly stays in Vegas, but if you do get drunk and someone takes your photo, face down in a urinal, we will publish it.
- Don’t be late to meetings and events. Although Rick Schwartz tweaked the schedule to accommodate those that don’t get up with the roosters, being late means you’re missing out on important speeches, not to mention, breakfast.
- Speaking of breakfast, that’s the most important meal of the day, while in TRAFFIC Las Vegas. Don’t skip it. Eat your eggs, bacon, biscuits, coffee, jam and orange juice that will keep you going until dinner. Lunches are over-rated, take a nap instead.
- Don’t forget to bring two important things along: your business cards, and germ-killing gel lotion. Lots of handshakes means lots of germs will be transferred to your hands, and onto your smart phone. Yummy!
- If you’re single, remember: the ladies that seem to be alone and available at 3am are professionals. Unless they are drunk, your sudden lucky strike will soon end with an empty wallet, or worse.
- Avoid getting money out of ATMs, at any cost! If you need cash, walk into a bank and withdraw cash from your bank account using a teller. Too many card skimmers in Vegas, baby!
- Last, but by no means least: don’t be disappointed if your domains at the TRAFFIC auction got bids, but didn’t sell. There are plenty of opportunities to negotiate your reserve with the TRAFFIC organizers.
Have fun, we won’t see you there! 😀
better face down in a urinal than face up.
