$88 million dollars for personal domain – but what about the dot com?

Ekaterina Rybolovleva and some unknown pimp.

The media is abuzz today about Ekaterina Rybolovleva, the 22-year-old daughter of Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, who forked out $88 million dollars for a rather large apartment at 15 Central Park West in New York.

An astounding amount of money spent on one’s “personal domain” space, but daddy Rybolovlev is worth a little less than $10 billion.

However, the domain name Rybolovlev.com isn’t owned by the Russian billionaire, whose daughter got the $88 million penthouse, and as for EkaterinaRybolovleva.com – well, that was registered as soon as news of the $88 million apartment sale made the news, according to top WHOIS tool, DomainTools.

While it’s sickening that some spend that much money for their living quarters, it’s alarming that they won’t spend a small chunk to either secure or acquire their very names in dot com!

  1. Poor Uncle says:

Give me a break. You don’t need a domain name when you have that kind of money.

  2. .me would be more appropriate than .com !
Also, I doubt if any one would bother to get their personal name domain. Every one shares their FB, Twitter accounts, for personal networking rather than a personal domain.
