The early days of Internet gold rush offered many opportunities to domain entrepreneurs and visionaries – those with the capital to invest, of course.
One of them, Mike Mann, has had an interesting and satisfying career as founder, owner or executive officer of start ups and corporations.
Mike Mann is known these days as the .CO Tycoon – after acquiring a triad of ultra-premium domains in the .co namespace: Oil.co, Gas.co and Gold.co
A little known fact is that Mike Mann was the original registrant of Government.net back in 1995.
It was that early on when Mike’s visionary approach to domaining recognized the value of TLDs other than .com’s. Mike registered Government.net with the intention to facilitate a government network in Washington, DC.
After selling his holding company, Internet Interstate, and assets to Verio in 1997, Mike Mann kept Government.net and eventually sold it.
Unfortunately the new owner let it lapse and the domain was registered again in 1998. Government.net is currently on sale via Media Options – a brokerage firm that recently sold the domain name Pizza.net, reputedly for between $1 to $1 billion dollars.
