Alexa.com was acquired by Amazon many years ago; the web ranking tool provided metrics about active web sites and their traffic.
The web site shared visualized data obtained from millions of installations of the free Alexa browser plugin; while not everyone in the world was using it, the Alexa ranking was a globally-acceptable metric to gauge web traffic. Quite often, it was used to establish valuation for domain names with former or active web sites.
When Amazon shut down Alexa.com last year, the idea was that it’d become a portal for its voice-driven range of devices. Last year, however, marked the dawn of AI-driven software such as ChatGPT, that is destined to change the definition of artificial intelligence.
After OpenAI notoriously acquired AI.com, Alexa.com presents an opportunity to capture a similar piece of the market. The current page at Alexa.com displays a “Coming Soon” message:
A new site for Alexa, Amazon’s cloud based AI. To learn more about Alexa features, skills, and products, click HERE.
It’s clear that Amazon has grand plans for Alexa.com, a domain with a massive 134 million backlicks.
Meanwhile, an enterprising individual has listed the domain AlexaAi.com at Dan. Amazon already owns numerous Alexa trademarks registered with the USPTO and one should be careful when registering such domain names.
