Having clocked several thousand hours perusing online domain forums, such as DNForum.com we cannot help but wonder:
Are domainers happy or grumpy?
The domain business has incorporated various domainer types but the overall sentiment is what matters.
In other words, if one isn’t happy with what they do with domains, they need to move on to something else, such as gardening, photography, horse insemination or babysitting.
Here are some responses that stood out from a recent survey we conducted about how happy domainers are:
“I’m loving it! Every day I start with a mug of java, visit the domain forums and by the time I am done at noon, my mood has dropped a bit. There seems to be a lot of junk for sale and those that want to buy quality domain names offer peanuts. By mid afternoon I am getting frustrated, especially after reading the usual regurgitated blog posts. I mean, come on, a step by step guide on how to build templates? Who does that crap nowadays. If I needed web development I’d hire a pro, not some pimply kid that poses as a corporation. By mid evening, I am getting angry seeing Sedo’s brokering system caught behind in achieving sales, my Moniker account gets locked out for some reason. That’s when I start to bang on my keyboard and I need some titties and beer!” – Bill K. from Mobile, Alabama
Bill is clearly spot on about what occurs on a given day in domaining. Others have a different point of view:
“Dude, domaining is like tossing dice. No two days are alike, except for the usual peddlers of crap domains and questionable services. Either way, I hate my life every day. Making money is great but being b*tched upon by my wife about why I should not register adult or fetish domains gets me on the edge of my seat. I make money, so who cares, right?” – Jerome T. from Austin, Texas
While domainers are mostly male, female domainers are abundant and bring a feminine touch to domaining:
“Unless I am having my monthly cycle – during which I become the ultra b*tch that many love to hate on domain forums – I enjoy domaining. I work from home so being in my greased up flannel pants is not an issue. I get compliments for my deep, sexy voice when I place cold calls to sell domain names and that makes me soooo giddy and squirmy to know! Domaining rules, and I will fight any b*tch that stands in my way!” – Evonne A. from Seattle.
Didn’t Morgan Linton have this same post a couple of weeks ago?
Shiphouse – I’m sure that great minds think alike 🙂
Are you a happy or a grumpy domainer?
I’m definitely the grumpy type…domaining is a hard set of daily tasks and people don’t realize it’s not an easy way to make money. Hard work is one thing but it takes a lot of energy. Egos clashing etc. Damn it!
Hey, can’t you be Happily Grumpy?
Tricolorro – from a philosophical standpoint yes. From a domainer standpoint, I highly doubt it 😀
Differences of opinion often cause heated discussions on some of the forums. I suppose some would consider the antagonists grumpy. But you cannot blindly register just any domain.
Apparently an overwhelming majority of those who voted are Grumpy domainers 😀
I am always a happy go lucky domainer, always happy what I get from domaining,
fact of the matter is:
-When you get money out of domaining you called yourself a “Happy Domainer”
-When you try hard to get nothing then you are posting here as a “Grumpy Domainer” ((losers)
I’m usually a happy domainer, but I am low-balled into a grumpy stage at times.
