Argentinian took over the #domain Google.com.ar for a while

A technical glitch at Argentina’s ccTLD Registry allowed a third party to take over the registration of the domain Google.com.ar and keep it for a short while. The domain is used as the Google portal in Argentina.

Nicolás David Kuroña said in his Twitter account that “I want to clarify that I entered nic.ar I saw the name of google.com.ar available and I legally bought it as appropriate!”

Domains registered with nic.ar expire every year and must be renewed, but this time Kuroña was faster than Google’s own admins in Argentina.

However, minutes after his accomplishment, it was confirmed that Google had already recovered the domain.

In the interim, access to Google.com.ar was disrupted, as nic.ar apparently does not support the automatic renewal or the multi-year renewal of domain names.
