Launched in 2009, Words With Friends is a mind game among the most popular in the US. We’ve been playing it almost daily for a good 15 years—one could say that it’s synonymous with DomainGang’s launch almost 16 years ago. We even wrote a parody post or two about Words With Domainers, for example.
Now named Words With Friends 2, the app serves ads between game rounds, although one can pay a fee to skip seeing ads for a period of time. We play the free version and seeing ads is part of the gameplay flow.
Recently, domain marketplace Atom appears to have been paying for ads for domains showing up, as seen in this screenshot below:
Atom has created several such ads and they seem to “gamify” domains up to a point.
Names this great might sell fast, as the Atom motto says, but we’re not so convinced that buyers, especially free-riding ones, would pay mid four figures or more to buy domain names.
Getting exposure for your domains can achieved through many venues and in our opinion this one won’t lead to sales but it’s fun to encounter in-between Words With Friends rounds.
