A company called The Orchard is putting forth copyright claims to thousands of YouTube videos.
The Orchard calls themselves “A pioneering music and video distribution company operating in more than 20 global markets and providing a comprehensive sales and marketing platform for content owners.”
Whether your uploaded video to YouTube contains third party (audio) content that’s licensed, comes from 1930’s movies or created by you even, it doesn’t matter.
By taking advantage of the automatic copyright identification feature on YouTube, The Orchard effectively attributes the audio of thousands of videos to artists under its control and thus receives royalties from every video play.
One can dispute such claims once they receive them, but once YouTube forwards them to The Orchard they are turned down pretty quickly.
This information and more, is contained in this eye-opening YouTube video, titled “Orchard Music Scam” – an eye-opener about digital bullying in the 21st century.
