The British owned web site DomainLore – a marketplace for .co.uk domain names – has posted an announcement, outing a shill bidder who attempted to place bids on their own domains being auctioned.
This practice is known as “shill bidding” and it’s grounds for account termination in all major auction venues, including eBay.
The text reads as follows:
The seller of IU.co.uk, Ashley Francis, has attempted to shill bid in his own auction under different account but was automatically detected and stopped. It is sad to see such sellers are still around. Especially when I just recently warned how DomainLore is determined to crush any attempt to shill bid and that using VPN/proxies/etc will get you caught anyway (this one used privatetunnel.com). What are these people thinking? Shill bidding *is a criminal offence* in the UK. I hope you don’t do any business with this person after that.
Shill bidding is a absolute disgrace and it’s great seeing the admin of DomainLore outing the shill bidder with such a stern statement and warning.
