When it comes down to three letter .com domains, they range from AAA .com to ZZZ .com for a total of 17,576 combinations.
The first one is obviously AAA.com, the American Automobile Association (the “AAA” or “Triple-A”) which was founded on March 4, 1902, in Chicago, Illinois, in response to a lack of roads and highways suitable for automobiles.
This is why, to this day, AAA is synonymous with roadside assistance. We came across their domain name at a traffic light, in yet another “domain sighting” case.
What’s interesting in the picture is the reference to “AAA Batteries” – that’s not the battery size, but rather, an AAA-branded car battery that AAA provides.
The domain AAA.com was registered in August 1990, so not only it’s old, it cost nothing to register.
What’s a “domain sighting,” you may ask.
It’s when we encounter domain names in the real world, that appear on vehicle wraps and signs, billboards and business signs, and product packaging. For convenience, we group them into .com domain sightings, and other ccTLDs, gTLDs and TLDs.
