#Domains and trademarks: Fry’s files for Frys.com, finally

FRYS.COM

Fry’s Electronics has done it, finally, filing for the registration of the mark FRYS.COM.

The trademark application with the USPTO could not have arrived at the worst time, as the application was filed in November 2020 but was just now assigned to an examining attorney at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The mark was applied for the following services:

  • Downloadable software for use by customers in association with online retail services to allow customers to make purchases of consumer goods; downloadable software for use in sending and receiving data in association with online retail store services; downloadable software for use by customers to post and view ratings, reviews, and recommendations regarding specific consumer goods and services in association with online retail store services.
  • On-line retail store services featuring a wide variety of goods; providing a website for users with specific informed recommendations of specific consumer goods and services validated by the users’ inputted preferences and social network; promoting the goods and services of others by providing a community-driven website featuring user-submitted content in the nature of product ratings, reviews, and recommendations; providing a web site featuring the ratings, reviews and recommendations on consumer goods and services posted by users.

In early 2021, Fry’s Electronics closed down all 31 of its iconic stores, and announced it’s going out of business. Source: Frys.com.

It’s both sad and ironic that FRYS.COM won’t be used as a trademark as far as we can tell, unless the company is liquidated and taken over by another retailer that will carry the torch of the iconic electronics brand.
