If you’ve been using DomainTools for more than a decade, you’ll probably familiar with its sidekick URL – whois.sc.
Set up in the Seychelles under the local ccTLD dot .sc, this shortcut has nourished generations of domainers, and definitely performed millions of WHOIS queries.
While we advise everyone to use DomainTools.com/example.com when querying a domain, it just so happens and we type whois.sc/example.com.
As of tonight, these queries, however, are forwarding to an ad system; when looking up a domain, ad landers are displayed. Meanwhile, the home page forwards to DomainTools.com.
Using DomainTools, it appears that the technical contact for the domain whois.sc changed today, from that of DomainTools, to someone at EuroDNS. The nameservers were changed as well.
At this time, we are not sure what is going on.
Edit: It seems that the glitch has now been fixed.
