The so-called “Patient Zero” in the recent Ebola virus incident involving a Liberian man who traveled to Dallas, Texas, owned several domain names and even active web sites.
According to research data provided by DomainTools, Thomas Eric Duncan personally managed domains and web sites, mostly .com, .net, .org, one .info and one .biz.
“These domains and web sites are now quarantined, and anyone that might have visited them is advised to check themselves in a hospital for a lab test,” said Bob Taboski, spokesperson for the Dallas Memorial Regional Hospital.
“No need to panic, but if you visited web sites that might have been handled by the Ebola patient, or domains he might have vomited on, it’s best to act now,” added Taboski.
With an incubation period of 7 to 21 days, the Ebola virus can affect any TLD or gTLD when delivered through feces, sperm, saliva or other bodily fluids.
There is no cure currently for the Ebola virus, and the risk of domain to domain (DtD) infections remains extremely high. Domainers are advised to wash their hands often, with soap and hot water, in-between domaining sessions.
