Face.com might have been sold to Facebook for reportedly one hundred million dollars, but no-one can play the game of buying start-ups to make up for lack of corporate innovation better than Microsoft.
(Long pause to catch breath as that previous sentence ran long.)
Microsoft introduced the Surface tablet and Surface.com yesterday afternoon and here’s what it stands for:
“Microsoft Surface is a line of tablet ultra-portable PCs designed to work with Windows RT and Windows 8 operating systems. Different versions will be available featuring ARM and Intel CPUs and the display is a 10.6″, 16:9 widescreen HD Display (RT version) or Full HD Display (Pro version).”
The product was announced by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at a Los Angeles event at Milk Studios.
After destroying a perfectly good generic such as Clubbing.com to make room for Club Bing and then discontinuing it three weeks ago, Microsoft seems to have found its niche with Surface.com.
Let’s hope this one lasts!
