FBI shuts down massive network of Bad Domain names

2900 domains were seized by the FBI unit combatting bad domain names!

Not content with taking over domains that are used to sell counterfeit products, the FBI has scored against international crime, once again.

This time around, FBI is targeting bad domains.

Not the ones with malicious content but just that: domains that are so bad and crappy that they aren’t worth reg fee.

“We are doing a favor to hundreds of domainers that fooled themselves into thinking their domains are worth anything”, said Marcus Hawkeye of the ICE – FBI joint team.

“Truly crap domains that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to renew, that’s on our seizure list”, he added.

Every year domainers spend a lot of money on unworthy domains – or in the Rick Schwartz lingo “pigeon domains“.

With the FBI intervention the savings will be massive; domainers will thus be able to spend their money on more constructive things, such as domain development or feeding the homeless.

Some of the domains seized were previously flipped on domain marketplaces, such as NamePros or eBay for a few bucks above reg fee. It will now be a crime to re-register and attempt to sell those domains, once they expire.
