Do not discount good ole’ Fidel Castro yet. The 84 year old former ruler – some say, dictator – of Cuba is still busy in the political and social sidelines of his country.
In a monumental speech he delivered yesterday in Havana, in front of a large crowd consisting of several hundred Cuban farmers and several dozen Canadian tourists, Fidel unfolded the next big goal for his country will be a global recognition of its national ccTLD – .CU
For four hours, Fidel talked about the spirit of Cubans which has not broken in almost fifty years of a US-held embargo. He then described how important it is to stay connected with the rest of the socialist world – and the few remnants of the former communist superpower, Russia.
It was then that Fidel spoke about the success of the Colombian TLD, .CO and saluted “the brothers of hispanic blood“, as he said. Revealing a 500-page manual he started at page 1 with the following declaration:
“The promotion of the culture, history and national passion is evident in the approval of use of our national top level domain, .CU by the democratic supporters of the People’s Revolution of Cuba. It is my responsibility as the leader and father and protector of all Cubans to launch a successful introduction of .CU as a marketing tool of the Revolution. The oppression of capitalism and the blind assaults of the Cuban spirit will be met with a decisive and powerful use of .CU – the initials stand for Cubanos Unidos but from now on it will be known as ‘See You!”. Hasta la vista! Venceremos!”
Fidel’s speech continued through another 25 pages of the manual before he had to retire in a shady and air conditioned armored vehicle and to have his vitals checked – much to the relief of his entourage who do not fully grasp the importance of Cuba’s ccTLD promotion.
It is expected that in the coming months a campaign about .CU will be rolled out; some expect it to be very similar to the .CO but instead of capitalist orange the color of the Cuban revolution – blood red – will be used.
Naturally, the Fidel Castro Foundation plans to hold back the most important .CU domains for auction later on; names such as Healthcare.cu, Freedom.cu, Democracy.cu, Equality.cu etc. will all be reserved words.
Fidel Castro is a criminal, enough said.
