Google is retiring its popular URL shortener, Goo.gl, replacing it with a new one called Firebase Dynamic Links.
FDLs are smart URLs that allow you to send existing and potential users to any location within an iOS, Android or web app.
There are two stages in the transition away from Goo.gl, a domain that uses the Greenland ccTLD, .gl:
- From April 13, 2018 onward, no additional .gl links can be created
- From March 30, 2019, the .gl console that provides stats will no longer be available, although all existing .gl links will continue to function as before.
