First gTLD approved by ICANN: .Communism returns with Sergei Putanov

ICANN ends the year (and the decade) with a big bang: the first approval of a gTLD launch, as early as in January of 2011.

To commemorate the 87 years since the passing of Vladimir Lenin, the approval of .Communism has been cleared by the ICANN committee with a resounding 45 for, 5 against vote in Cartagena, Colombia.

Acknowledged by TIME Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century, Vladimir Lenin left a legacy within the old Soviet and now Russian elite.

Sergei Putanov, prominent Russian multi-billionaire and domain investor is the primary sponsor of the .Communism gTLD which he plans to utilize as a platform of promoting the old Russian ideals about people sharing their wealth, enjoying life in the Siberian steppe and the appreciation of Levis jeans.

“In mother Russia, domain register you”, said Sergei Putanov a few months ago – adding: “With introduce .communism I show world ideology and money work well together. Platform for dot communism produce many memorabilia, t-shirt, vodka brand and vacation in Siberia and Florida.”

Sergei Putanov’s empire is stretching from real estate to domain names; the primary investor of .Communism will most likely throw a lavish party in Moscow to commemorate the approval of the dot Communism gTLD by ICANN.

In a separate statement, Sergei Putanov denied having paid a special price to ICANN officials for the fruition of this gTLD application.

    I am sure that this will be promoted and hyped as a typo of .com just like dot cm (.cm) and dot co (.co)

    I look forward to the approval of the Yoga gTLD, dot om (.om) and it’s endless array of dot com typos.
