The introduction of the Euro-law called GDPR in May 2018 brought serious headaches to the domain industry. It complicates the issue of proving domain ownership, and its contribution to offering shelter to criminal activity from investigators cannot be disputed.
Many domain names now display the words “GDPR Masked” instead of the usual domain ownership information for the Registrant, Technical Contact and Admin Contact in the WHOIS.
The irony of it all, lies in the registration of the domain name, GDPRMasked.com.
Why ironic, you might ask, and for that we’ll forward you to the WHOIS information for the domain at DomainTools, which clearly is not masked. 😀
Nice move by the domain’s registrant from India!
