When Gmail introduced the availability of tabbed categories for incoming email, the action was meant to be practical: notifications from social media would end up in the “Social” tab.
Other types of promotional material would end up in the “Promotions” tab, keeping your Inbox clean and tidy.
It seems that many Gmail users fail to look into these tabs, and often miss important emails, some of which are relayed via Facebook.
Mark Zuckerberg‘s baby commands a huge amount of daily traffic; essentially, Facebook is #1 in many countries of the world, and #2 globally after Google.
Facebook started notifying its billion+ users at the top of their profiles, urging them to move notification emails permanently:
“Don’t Miss Facebook Notifications in Gmail – Emails from Facebook now go to your Social tab where you might not see them. Drag emails from your Social tab to your Primary tab to make sure you never miss an update.”
There is even an animated guide to make sure that Facebook users do so easily.
In the past, Facebook was the recipient of intense ire by its users, when it arbitrarily changed the default email address on their profiles, to “username@facebook.com.”
