Google has reportedly acquired the domain Gmail.RU, a Russian email provider established in 2003.
The domain was previously owned by the Russian development company Sema.ru, since February 11, 2003.
Thus, Gmail.ru began its operations earlier than Google rolled out its popular email service, Gmail.com.

The transfer appears to have completed on May 19th, and there is no information regarding the financial aspect of the exchange.
