Greek domainers : Papaki – the only ICANN accredited registrar in Greece

Operating an ICANN-accredited domain registrar in Greece, puts a lot of weight on the shoulders of Papaki.

Operating from Papaki.gr and Papaki.com, the Greek domain registrar was founded in 2004 in Crete, Greece, by Dimitris Anthoulakis, Aggela Anthoulaki and Frank Maounis.

In 2009, it became the top domain registrar for .GR and .EU domains in Greece.

Five years later, in 2014, it received accreditation from ICANN, the only domain registrar in Greece to receive it.

Papaki means “little duck” in Greek, and it’s synonymous with the “@” symbol used in email and social media profiles, since the early days of the Greek Internet. Someone had the bright idea that the “at” symbol resembles a duckling. 😀

From the early 90’s, to this date, Greek Internet users would give their email address out (example: nikos@internet.gr) as “nikos – papaki – internet dot gr.”

As a domain registrar and web hosting provider, Papaki prides itself for the quality of services it provides. After all, their motto is “Happy. People. Online.”
