Trucks.com International LLC, operators of the aged, ultra-premium domain name Trucks.com, has applied for the registration of the matching mark, TRUCKS.COM, with the USPTO.
The mark consists of the wording TRUCKS.COM in stylized uppercase font with the term “.COM” stacked under the letter “S” in the word “TRUCKS”; the “dot” in “.com” is depicted as a triangle pointed upwards; there is a short horizontal underline under the letter “T” and the vertical line/stem part of the letter “R” in the word “TRUCK”; the angled leg/tail of the letter “R” extends horizontally under the letters “UCK” in the word “TRUCK”.
In other words, this is an application that involves stylized text and other graphic elements.
Registered in 1995, Trucks.com is an ultra-premium domain name about the trucking business. The trademark was filed with an “intent to use” note; as the web site at Trucks.com shows, the services are slated for October 2023.
Applying for the registration of matching marks is an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD.
As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
Will these applications become the new norm? Watch this video from NamesCon Online 2020.
