ICANN #47 takes place currently in Durban, South Africa.
The beach resort is one of the several locations that World Cup 2010 – famous for its vuvuzelas – took place in 2010.
Meanwhile, ICANN announced the implementation of new, improved Registrar and Registry agreements.
Elaborating on the most important changes to the ownership record regulations, ICANN CEO Fadi Chehadé said:
“For the longest time, domainers have been asking for a safe, secure and indisputably permanent solution to domain ownership identification. We are implementing DDRR – Durban Dental Record Registry – as a testbed to ensure that the process works smoothly.”
Fadi Chehadé was referring to a new process of matching of domains and registrants, via dental records. The latter are often used successfully in identifying victims of fire or even chemical attacks.
“There is no reason why dental records, particularly the DDRR initiative, cannot be equally successful with domain names,” added Fadi Chehadé, who was recently appointed interim President of Egypt.
ICANN #47 in Durban continues today with voting on a budgetary increase, which is expected to pass with flying colors.
