The AdTech division of the group subsidiary IONOS, in which the advertising technology business is bundled, is now for sale. Sedo GmbH is part of that IONOS group.
Yesterday, IONOS CEO Achim Weiß announced that he wants the company to leave that sector and focus on the core business areas with products around internet presences (“Web-Presence & Productivity”) and cloud offerings. Domain Name Wire first shared the news.
Financial statements show that in the first nine months of the year, IONOS increased sales thanks to increased customer numbers and also increased in operating profit. Sales, adjusted for AdTech, rose by 6.2% to a very nice 980 million euros, as the United Internet subsidiary, also listed in the MDax, announced.
Earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) adjusted for special effects climbed by a good 20% to almost 369 million euros.

Equity expert Frederik Altmann of Alpha Wertpapierhandel, commenting on the IONOS price losses at the Frankfurt stock market noted that “Analysts and investors are currently struggling to assess the figures including the unexpected sales plan for AdTech.”
In that respect, yesterday’s announced sale of the AdTech division which includes Sedo GmbH, was a surprise and not a corporate sentiment that existed prior to recent weeks or months.
We reached out to Sedo for a statement about the news about the division’s intended sale—here’s the official response:
At this time, there is no further information or news available beyond what has been publicly announced. Sedo is indeed part of the IONOS Group’s AdTech portfolio that is up for sale.
As IONOS is a publicly traded company, any significant updates will be disclosed immediately in accordance with regulatory requirements.
The sales process has only just begun, and once there are developments to share, the IONOS Group will communicate them publicly.
Any sale of Sedo would include a substantial amount of money and could involve the approval of German/EU regulators.
The AdTech division of IONOS that includes Sedo GmbH generates about 20% of the IONOS revenue.
