Do you use Klout, the social ranking service? We don’t use it regularly, but apparently millions of others do.
It seems that we need to be paying more attention to it though, as the company is very close to being acquired by Lithium Technologies, for a cash and stock deal worth at least $100,000,000 dollars.
The deal is closed but not yet signed, according to sources.
Klout raised $30 million dollars in a Series C investment round, and provides a scoring system for companies and individuals to help determine their influence in social media.
On a scale of 0 to 100, our Klout score is 25. 🙁
Bah! 😀

I never understood the value in clout. It’s like buying likes in Facebook. LinkedIn is going the same route with endorsements by suggesting you should endorse this guy for this and the other for that. They are not authentic.
I mean Klout as do 1000s like me who type in clout based on human nature…. also in having intentional typo domains like Flickr, Tumblr, Tindr, Klout…
Owen – I agree, in the sense that all these “ratings” for social media interaction attempt to introduce a method of measuring authority.
I think the value is in the data. Klout allows advertisers to market directly to influential consumers. It’s a great way to get the word out about a product, IMO.
Jacob – Agreed. And when the product is free, *you* are the product 😀
My score says 44, is that high or low?
I never understood the purpose of that site
DomainMagnate – The closer it is to 100, the better. So, what do you “win”? No idea 😀
Update: Apparently, the acquisition was doubled to $200 million, per http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2014/03/26/klout-acquired-for-200-million-by-lithium-technologies/
