Namecheap has sent a popular torrent sharing domain, Nofile.IO into no man’s land, suspending it.
Nofile.io is now in “serverHold” status, which means it can’t be updated or resolve via its DNS.
Why would that happen?
A month ago, Namecheap was issued a subpoena to hand over the contact information of the domain’s registrant by the RIAA.
The RIAA requested the subpoena at the US District Court for the District of Columbia; the paperwork includes a letter addressed to Namecheap, in which RIAA demands detailed information on the Namecheap customer associated with the file-hosting services domain.
If you engage in unlawful activities, switching from a .com to a domain like dot .IO is not a safe haven.
Even if you’re operating from a ccTLD, your domain will eventually be disabled or even deleted.
