Domainers have lots of creative ideas; if that weren’t the case, then DomainGang would not exist in the first place 😀
On January 1st, a domainer launched Project 5k – an ambitious attempt to turn a small investment into five grand:
“2012 is here and it’s time to get to work. The goal of this website is to take $500 and by the end of the year turn it into $5,000. I will be chronicling the entire process showing along the way listing my goals, showing the websites I create, and whatever other moves I make. Let’s get started …”
The creative domain investor buys domains and keeps a ledger of costs; eventual sales will then be counted towards the $5,000 goal.

I remember viewing this blog last year. It looks like the person who owns it reset it to try and attempt to achieve this goal in 2012 rather then in 2011. Unfortunately the 2011 blog entries seem to have been all cleared out. There were some good entries listed in 2011 which showcased the struggles of monetizing domain names.
To the blog owner if you are reading this. What happened to all of the progress made in 2011? I understand that the initial investments which were made might not of netted much in the beginning but if you stuck to it I am sure that outcome would of changed. Why did you decide to start all over again in 2012?
Good luck! I am following the progress for a few months now, and it’s interesting to see the way you “play”. Maybe there are some riskier moves available, but that would probably be boring to the public, to someone who is just observing.
Something like trying to make a larger sell to the end user. I suppose that would be cheating? 😀
