The .AI Registry has tweaked the data it shares with the public and unlike most, if not all, other ccTLD registries, the date data is missing.
We pointed out this issue a few weeks ago, when the actual WHOIS tool for .AI domains was disabled for a few days.
At the same time, we noticed that the registration date of .AI domains was missing, both at the Registry WHOIS and from metadata providers, such as DomainTools. A few days later, access to the WHOIS tool was reinstated, all while a domain’s creation date was removed.
The fact is, that the Registry is being weird with the date issue, not providing a domain’s expiration date, for example. Its manager said on Twitter that “only the owner of a .ai domain gets to know when it expires.“
Of course, the Registry itself should know when any .AI domain expires; after all, it holds auctions for expired domains instead of releasing them back to the pool of available domain names.
At least we know when Bananas.io expires! 🙂
