NamesCon, the biggest new domain conference of 2014, added several new sponsors yesterday; among them, Rightside.
Formed as a sidekick of Demand Media, Rightside puts the emphasis on its “id” part – identity – and an obvious reference to the brand to the right of the dot.
Rightside is one of many new companies formed to accelerate and assist with the introduction of gTLDs, an expansion of the Internet domain lanes unlike any other in history.
Offering both registry and registrar solutions, Rightside operates from the domain name Rightside.co.
The dot .CO TLD is the number one choice of start-ups in Silicon Valley and the broader tech sector, when the .com is already taken. In this case, the .com does not even resolve.
Consumers and domain investors alike are experiencing the dawn of a new Internet era, and the evolution of the original, aged TLDs into brands that rely on product and service quality, more than dependency on the domain itself.
