Today’s webinar held by Sedo and InterNetX was a great opportunity to break down key metrics about the domain industry with live analysis and commentary from listeners.
Hosted by Lars Steffen of Eco.de, the webinar featured Simone Catania of InterNetX and Semra Körner of Sedo—two experienced executives of their respective companies who shared hands-on, expert knowledge of the domain market and its components.
Simone Catania presented the first part of the webinar, focusing on trends and metrics of the domain industry, as compiled in the detailed and beautifully designed Global Domain Report 2025.
The total number of domain registrations continued to increase in 2024 and while .com lost some of its clout it remains the top TLD globally, with more than 43% as a share.
Meanwhile, new gTLDs now stand at 10% of the total number of registered domains.
This chart shows the slight decline of traditional “core” TLDs such as .com, .net, and .org, versus the overall growth in domain registrations supplied by an increase in new gTLD and ccTLD registrations.
Simone answered our question about reporting on ccTLDs that are given away for free, such as .tk that has 19 million registrations: They are included in the report but not included in the ranking; China’s ccTLD, .cn, remains at the top with 19 million registrations as well.
Semra Körner presented data from Sedo sales that show the power of “Buy Now” landing pages at Sedo.com.
A staggering 69% of all sales at Sedo were BIN actions, with “Make Offer” negotiations trailing at 11% and auctions at 10%. Brokered deals take the longest to compete at 5% but they tend to result in bigger sales, per Sedo.
Semra, who had camera issues during the webinar, presented (in audio) the ongoing trend by end-user buyers regarding new TLDs, as seen above.
Such sales command amounts higher than both the average and median prices for domains sold at Sedo.
The average price and median price of domains sold at Sedo is presented above; these numbers remain unchanged from the previous year, indicating that a solid marketplace such as Sedo.com produces a steady volume of sales for domains marked across a variety of prices.
A little before the webinar’s end, Semra did appear live so we can assure you she’s a different person than Simone!
Answering our question about .ai sales metrics for European buyers, Semra noted that Europe is equally represented among other nations globally, matching the trends experienced with .io domains in the past.
We’d like to thank Semra and Simone, along with Lars, for presenting a great webinar today. Get the Global Domain Report 2025 and review the data yourself!
