In March of this year, someone spent $125,000 dollars to acquire the domain name Proton.org via the Sedo marketplace.
At the time, speculation that Proton.org was acquired by ProtonMail was brewing; also, Amazon has a product called Amazon Proton that launched in 2021.
While ProtonMail added Proton.me as its chief domain name, Proton.org wasn’t resolving until the end of June.
On June 28th, Proton.org launched a live web site that reveals its mission: a blockchain token created for payments.
The Proton project was built by a number of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology start-up founders, co-founded by Marshall Hayner of Block.io and Glenn Mariën of Dogechain.info.
Advisors and early investors include Erik Voorhees of ShapeShift and Andrew Lee of Purse.io.
The company has upgraded its domain name from ProtonChain.com, as seen in this release.
