The prestigious State Bank of India (SBI) is moving away from its .co.in extension, to the more corporate dot .SBI.
The domain rebranding of its corporate URL as Bank.SBI from the previous SBI.co.in aims at enabling the bank to use its corporate name as the top-level identifier.
The State Bank of India asserts that due to its non-replicability, a gTLD site like .SBI conveys confidence to the customer that the site is authorized, genuine and is not an inappropriate or phishing site.
According to ANI News:
“SBI being the largest bank has always been the pioneer in adapting new technology. SBI has always believed in providing high-tech yet secure internet experience to its customers. Bank’s own gTLD is another step in this direction,” said the Chairman of SBI, Arundhati Bhattacharya.
State Bank of India also owns the three letter domain, SBI.com, which does not seem to resolve.
