But what if the matching domain, Puppies.com, had been registered a full seven years prior?
Very simple: You register Puppies-dot-com.com.
The domain advertised itself as Puppies dot com throughout:
The business lasted until 2016 and the domain was allowed to lapse and was deleted. It has been re-registered twice since.
Obviously, the Puppies dot com “brand” would be confused with Puppies.com.
One would have to say on TV: “Come get your puppies, at Puppies dot com. That’s Puppies, dash, dot (D, O, T), dash, com (C, O, M), dot com.”
