Digital Domain – the special effects mega-corporation that brought back Tupac Shakur from the dead as a hologram – is now dying a fast death of its own.
Having filed for Chapter 11, Digital Domain appears to be a ghost of its former glory.
The company contributed to dozens of high profile films, including Titanic, TRON: Legacy, Transformers, and more. Digital Domain’s assets will be liquidated, to the tune of $15 million, in order to pay $35 million to creditors.
Former NFL great, Dan Marino, who reportedly invested $14 million dollars of his own money in the company, is losing a fortune; the NYSE listed stock was trading at 8 cents a share!
Digital Domain Media Group (DDMG) operates from a dot .co domain.
The unfortunate ending of the award-winning digital production company, brings the losses to around $400 million for the industry it represents; it’s also a huge loss for the Florida creative talent that it employed.
