Walmart is rolling out Walmart+ as a direct competition to Amazon’s Prime.
For an annual fee of $98 dollars, consumers get unlimited delivery from stores without an additional fee, including Walmart’s 2,700 stores that offer same day delivery. The service is launching on September 15th.
Naturally, Walmart is using WalmartPlus.com, a domain name it forwards to Walmart.com. However, Walmart didn’t always own this domain.
It was first registered in 2005 by a Canadian registrant, who was obviously squatting on the famous mark. The following year, the domain dropped and in 2006 it was either acquired or registered by Walmart.
It’s great seeing companies such as Walmart rolling out a brand or service all while owning the matching .com domain name.
