WordPress, the content management system (CMS) used by many web sites around the world, broke new records recently.
According to statistics released by BuiltWith, WordPress installations gained 7% among all CMS installations, increasing the market share of WordPress to 48%.
This translates to an additional 1,149,956 domains running web sites on WordPress, in the first 6 months of 2015.
Other notable CMS systems that increased their market shares include:
- SquareSpace – Increased by 33% and 151,867 domains
- Ghost – Increased by 17% and 2,184 domains
- WIX – Increased by 14% and 154,783 domains
More web sites are opting to utilize an established content management system, as opposed to a custom-made one; the existing market, particularly for WordPress, provides numerous add-ons, plugins and tools that are easily added on top of the CMS of choice.
The current trends are showing that WordPress will break through the 50% share sometime by the end of the year.
