Daylight Saving Time (DST) sprang us forward last night, moving the clocks from 2:00am to 3:00am in the US.
Losing an hour of sleep is not the biggest problem, as is the fact that the US does so two weeks ahead of most other countries, including Europe. Summer time arrives when it’s not exactly spring, messing with the circadian rhythm. Domain investors become cranky and the internal clock doesn’t reset for a good week.
Come Monday, DropCatch domain auctions will be taking a hit, as sleep-deprived domainers will attempt to take a nap before 3:00pm Eastern. Missing the final 5 minutes of the auction can be decisive; Chinese or European investors will not be in need of caffeine to hit that bidding button.
Alas, there is no chance of this changing any time soon. The clocks are being moved forth and back again in fall, all thanks to an antiquated law that catered to farmers. With 40% of the American workforce working from home, Zoom warriors are in need of accuracy in clocks, instead of these bi-annual surprises.
I’m loading up on caffeine all day tomorrow, to overcome the lack of sleep I foresee for tonight; I had to take a 2 1/2 hour nap to make up for that damn hour that was stolen last night.
