A recent auction at Namejet for the domain name, WhyBother.com – which raises the question: why bother to bid – ended at $1,700.
The surprising part is that Frank Schilling’s bid was $1,100 – ending at third place – while Ammar Kubba of TrafficZ gambled his way to a not so lucky $444.
In the past, there were times that Frank Schilling would ostensibly not give up the #1 spot at Namejet auctions; it seems that the economy is not yet stable enough, not even for high rolling bidders.

It’s funny and yet it isn’t, I tried many times to win bids against the almighty Frank but lost every time.
You guys are forgetting some fundamental elements here! First of all – don’t F with the F! He will bitch slap you when he decides it it necessary! Wait your turn! JK!
Second – when a heavy hitter like FS, who BTW *REALLY* knows valuation models like nobody else backs off on an auction – it’s usually for a good reason!
IOW – if you LOVE the name, and have the nuts to play – jump on it! If you have a plan for the name – jump on it! If you’re up against heavy hitters like FS or others – pick your # and go for it! If it rolls past you – you’re in good company, and try again!
We ALL play in this space – and we ALL want to win! Sometimes you back off, and sometimes you go for the throat! Let the fun begin…..
What’s his user name? I think I’ve gone against him a few times.
Great advice, Bob. There’s definitely a method to win at online auctions against the big Frank: pray that his Internet goes down
I think the real reason is simple, Frank thought te name was worth $1,100. I wouldn’t read any more into it.
Shaun, nice to see you here
Isn’t it funny though, the domain being “why bother”.
On another note, Frank really loves compound .com domains. Some people I know would not even spend $50 on WhyBother.com
I agree with Shaun’s post.
