Jamie of dotWeekly is on a roll; his daily sleuthing of domains that often go unreported and are mainly all purchased, sold or moving for one reason or another by large corporations could not go unnoticed.
These domains often serve as early indicators to future brands, products or services by many large companies, and may give an early insight.
This list of domains compiled by Jamie is being reported for the first time, exclusively for DomainGang:
Crackdown.com has been purchased by Microsoft. The domain name was owned by Marchex and they do not sell domain names “cheap”! The transaction appears to have taken place on or about 12/4/2014 when the domain name went into privacy protection at eNom. On 2/12/2015 Microsoft was displayed in whois. Microsoft is using the domain name for the Xbox One product Crackdown Unleash The Agency and is redirecting Crackdown.com to http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/crackdown
Prodege, LLC which owns sites like Swagbucks.com, SodaHead and nCrave has registered the domain names WatchToFly.com and has covered some bases and also registered Watch2Fly.com. Maybe they are unsure which domain they are going to use, as they registered WatchAndFly.net and WatchNFly.com. Currently they do not own WatchAndFly.com which is owned by BuyDomains.com with a listing price of $688 the last I had seen.
CodeHunt.com a domain name that Microsoft used MarkMonitor to acquire with DNStination, Inc. according to whois records on June 20, 2013 have also revealed they own the .net and now redirect it to the .com. Code Hunt is an educational, browser-based coding game targeting teachers and students from introductory to advanced programming or software engineering.
Game-Trust.com has been registered by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains, Inc. client. The non-hyphenated domain GameTrust.com is currently owned by a Scott Kirk and has been registered since 2002. The domain is listed for sale currently for $25,000.
ClubBahia.com has been acquired by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains, Inc. client from HugeDomains.com. The domain was registered on 2/10/2013 and was listed for sale for $3,619 and was likely the sales price. Live Nation, the largest concert promoter in the U.S., announced that it would start showcasing indie concerts at Club Bahia in Echo Park recently and this may be related.
DailyQuarters.com has been registered by CBS Studios Inc.
DirtyBomb.com has been purchased at Afternic by CSC Corporate Domains, Inc. for the Nexon.net shooter game that is currently in beta called DirtyBomb! Nexon was using a sub-domain for the beta launch prior and are forwarding the domain DirtyBomb.com to the sub-domain dirtybomb.nexon.net but that will likely change. The domain was owned by THEWETLANDS.COM, INC but did go into privacy protection shortly before selling. The domain has been registered since 2001.
Barrie.com a domain name that appears to have been owned by Tucows was acquired on March 17, 2014 with the help of NetNames according to whois. The domain then switched to BARRIE KNITWEAR LIMITED on March 29, 2014. The domain then switched registrants to Chanel Inc. on 5/21/2014. On 7/2/2014 registrant data changed back to Barrie Knitwear Limited and remains that way today. Chanel acquired Barrie Knitwear Limited sometime in 2012.
FirstCustomer.com has been purchased by a currently unknown CSC Corporate Domains, Inc. client. The domain had a listing price of $4,200 and was owned by NameStore.com, which had the domain parked with SmartName.com with a for sale banner on the top of the page linking to a NameStore.com listing page.
DirtyBomb.com sold at Namejet on 12/7/2014 for $420.
Tom,
The buyers via NameJet likely sold it on Afternic according to whois records.
